Wine tour (3 days / 2 nights)
This 3 days tour leads us to Kakheti - the main wine region of Georgia. We aim not only to give you sampling of Georgian wines, we would also like to show you the traditions, the history and the attitude of Georgians to wine as well as an appreciation of the wines we produce.
Kakheti is synonymous with wine. There are hundreds of different grapes grown, and every village has its own particular variety. Kakhetians are usually characterized as less effusive than West Georgians, but very hospitable.
Sample itinerary:
Day 1 Tbilisi - Signagi - Telavi
Meeting at the airport. Drive to Kakheti. Visit to Signagi - town surrounded by a wall with 23 towers named after local villages. The town has wonderful views of the Alazani Valley and the Caucasus beyond. Proceed to Tsinandali - village that is a source of famous white wine and site of the Chavchavadze family estate. The park is beautifully laid out in an English style, with fine views, venerable trees and exotic plants. Visit to the family museum. Tour to a wine factory with wine tasting. Proceed to Telavi, main city of Kakheti; Visit to Batonistsikhe Castle. The Castle is the main architectural and historical feature of Telavi. It was the residence of the Kakhetian Kings in the 17th century.
Dinner & overnight at the guesthouse in Telavi.
Day 2 Telavi - sightseeing tour of Telavi.
Places to visit:
Wine factory Badagoni, in the village of Khodasheni, wine tasting, Shuamta - monastery complex, typical example of the early Christian architecture of Georgia. Ikalto Accademy complex (6th - 11th cc) Alaverdi Cathedral (11th c) - symbol of blossoming of the Georgian culture, Gremi fortress (16th - 17th cc); and Nekresi monastery complex
Dinner & overnight at the guesthouse in Telavi.
Day 3 Telavi - Tbilisi
Proceed to Tbilisi - Sightseeing tour
Sameba Cathedral (Trinity of the Second Millennium), Metekhi Church (XIII c.), Old Tbilisi, Sulpher Baths, Narikala Fortress (IV c.), Sioni Cathedral (XIII c.) and Anchiskhati Church.
Free time. You can wander through the streets of Tbilisi, to enjoy the city life, take pictures, spend the evening in a bar or restaurant of your choice. Transfer to the airport and departure.
